The Abbe Center for Community Mental Health is an outpatient
treatment center where qualified and caring professionals utilize a
team approach to provide services to meet the mental health
needs of individuals and the community. Since 1949, the Abbe Center (formerly the Linn County Mental Health Center) has served as the premier provider of mental health services in Linn County,Iowa and the surrounding area.

We offer an array of mental health services designed to help clients of any age (children, adolescents, adults and older adults). Whether you are seeking evaluation and support for adjustments to problems that affect personal, family or work life, or are in need of more extensive treatment for severe and persistent mental illness, the Abbe Center staff can help. Our services include evaluation, therapy, physician services, adult day treatment, support programs, case management, community education, and more.

Qualified and Caring Staff
Our licensed professionals work as a team to provide diagnostic and treatment services. Team members include psychiatrists, psychologist, social workers, registered nurses, mental health counselors, and marriage and family therapists. Our team approach facilitates the best-possible outcomes for treatment of individual needs by making a variety of professionals with specialized skills accessible to our clients.

Therapy/Counseling
Our experienced staff recognizes that each client's mental and emotional challenges are unique. That's why we offer treatment services on a vast array of issues. We work with clients to help them identify, understand and resolve their problems. People are seen individually, with family, or in therapy groups. Such counseling often deals with:

Accessing Services
An individual, a referring agency or health care professional, can make requests for services. When contacting us it is helpful to have the following information:

As a service to our clients, we file all claims with third party insurance carriers, Medicaid, and Medicare. Private pay clients are welcome. Financial assistance may be available. Please arrive at your initial visit 15 to 20 minutes early to allow adequate time to complete intake documents.

History of presenting problem including previous assessments and treatment information
Insurance information (policy number, name of the policyholder, and pre-authorization requirements and contact information)
Client information (name, address, telephone number, birth date, and social security number)

Consultative Services and Educational Programs
Abbe Center mental health professionals offer consultative services and educational programs throughout the community in the form of health fairs, seminars, classes, workshops, and speaking engagements. Programming is designed to educate organizations, schools, churches and other community groups about issues faced by those experiencing mental health challenges. Topics include, but are not limited to, anger management, conflict resolution, self-esteem, communication skills, and coping mechanisms.
